Adika Peter-McNeilly: from Scarborough to the sideline

Adika Peter-McNeilly’s basketball career connects a Scarborough high school, university gyms, professional clubs overseas and a college coaching bench in Edmonton. It is a reminder that a player’s story does not have to stop when the playing years do.
The Toronto years
Peter-McNeilly played at Mother Teresa in Scarborough and with MUMBA in club basketball. His Edmonton Stingers biography records a Division 1 Ontario Basketball Association championship with MUMBA in 2012.
At Ryerson, now Toronto Metropolitan University, he spent four seasons with the Rams. TMU Athletics reports that he became the program’s first U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian in his final season, 2016–17.
The professional game
After university, Peter-McNeilly played in Germany before signing with the Edmonton Stingers in 2019. His 2024 Stingers biography also documents professional basketball in France, Romania and Spain, and his 2021 CEBL Sixth Man of the Year award.
That same biography points to a future beyond playing: an interest in education and a goal of coaching a high school basketball program.
A different role at NAIT
By the 2024–25 season, he was coaching the NAIT Ooks men’s team. In a March 2025 interview with The Nugget, he described assembling a largely new roster with help from his assistants and summer open gyms.
The job had changed. Instead of earning his own minutes, he was deciding rotations, getting to know new players and bringing lessons from his playing career into coaching. The connection between those roles is the story worth following.
